Windows Shutdown Hang

I have Windows 98 SE after I do a “maintenance wizard” and I choose to “shut down” or “restart” my ‘puter hangs on the “Windows is Shutting Down” screen. I can normally do any sort of shutdown if I don’t do a maintenance wizard beforehand. This is apain, what can I do to rectify this problem??
