Windows Sound Recorder

I don’t know exactly when or how but something corrupted my ability to record sound using my Windows Sound Recorder. I have the on board audio software installed and it did not fix where my microphone will work. I have tried to re-install my SoundBlaster 16 software and it bombs saying I don’t have a Windows NT file, but it did not give me the name of the file. Can anyone here help me fix my Windows Sound Recorder to work with my microphone? I am running Windows 2000 Professional. Thanks so much.
