Here’s one that’s been driving me crazy: I recently built my son a new system and set aside his old P-233. After awhile, I thought I’d set it up in my work area to use as a test system, but it wouldn’t start up, so I figured I’d wipe the slate clean. I ran fdisk and formatted the drive, but found it had bad sectors. I attempted to install Win 98 full version and all seemed to go well until the detecting hardware area. After the re-start, the computer simply froze, I then thought the sectors on the hard drive may have contributed to the problem, so I low level formatted and tried again with the same result. Finally, I put a brand new hard drive in and again the same problem. The periphials are a SoundBlaster 16 ISA card, Linksys network card, Riva TNT video and a modem. Again, the system worked fine prior to my taking it out of service, no idea what happened. The system board is an ASUS SP97-V with a P-233 CPU and 64 mb RAM. The first hard drive was a 3.5 GB Maxtor replaced by a 20.0 GB Western Digital. Any ideas??
