windows xp can not found hard disk drives

I’m installing the operating system windows xp on dell machine dimension 4100 and i’m geting this error message windows xp can not found harddisk drives, can any one can help me? The hard drive is setting correctly on bios.
I have the same pb with linux red hat7.1
