Windows XP – Folders read-only??

by mrand . Updated 24 years, 5 months ago

Was helping someone who recently got a pc with Windows Xp installed. Was trying to run Presto PageManager to get his Umax scanner working. Vistascan, that came on the same cd, wouldn’t work. But the Umax source worked.
Got a good Preview, then dida Scan. Scan worked, but got a message about either not enought disk space or incorrect file name. He has about 31gig free. The filename was one automatically chosen by the program.
I went to see where the file was trying to save to. Seems thatthe INBOX folder was Read-Only. I took Read-Only off and Applied. Checked folder again, and the Read-only attribute was back. I then checked the other folders under PageManager. They were All Read-Only. Checked other folders. Read-only… AreALL Windows Xp folders permanently set for Read-Only??
With the Presto PageManager problem, I un-installed and re-installed PageManager and it worked.
Might have been some corruption somewhere. He had some type of Aol login problem, and thought that he could “GoBack” to before the problem started. He had to re-install a few other programs.
