Windows XP home edition – my computer keeps rebooting on shutdown

I have recently had my hard drive reformatted and installed windows XP home edition with SP2 included. When I shutdown, my computer automatically switches back on instead of switching off, can anybody help or advise. thanks. i am just learning about the ins and outs of computers so any help will be appreciated.
