Windows XP Professional…. Getting files of harddrive

My old computer died a few months after installing Windows XP Professional onto the hard drive.. I’ve got another computer and want to get the files off the old drive but can’t seem to get them off. I’ve put the hard drive into another computer but it won’t boot with that hard drive. I’ve tryed maken it a slave but hahaha the files are locked.. any suggestions?
