Windows95 and Windows98 Incompatibility

I have a Windows98 machine running SQL and it works great. I have a Windows95 workstation that can access the SQL database on the windows98 machine but when it makes changes to the data, specifically French Accents they look fine at the 95 workstation but when viewed from the 98 machine they appear as # symbols or other characters.
The same applies when the 98 machine puts in French accents, they appear fine from the 98 machine, but the 95 machine see’s them as # symbols?
