Wingate and Windows 2000 server

by blackcurrant . Updated 23 years, 1 month ago

Hi

I have just installed Wingate V5 on a W2K (SP3) Server machine running Small Buisiness Server 2K. Wingate can be installed in two modes – client or server. A Wingate server already exists, so I chose to install the Wingate client.

After installation was complete I was unable to set security permissions. When I tried to add an account the machine could not display a list of available accounts. When I checked the event logs, the application log contained an error: 1000 Userenv – Windows cannot connect to with (0x2749). Another entry also existed saying
Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects.

Uninstalling the Wingate client solved the problem.

However, I wish to be able to enable automatic updates/download updates. I can connect to the net via a shared modem (which exists on the machine running the Wingate server), but it bypasses Wingate and the protection it offers (a firewall). Searching EventID.net resulted in a link to a Microsoft KB article: 196271-Unable to connect from TCP ports above 5000. Although this looks promising, I don’t think it will solve my problem, as the exact reference on EventID.net differed from my (0x2749) quoted above.

Searching the Wingate site and Microsoft’s site has not helped. Has anyone else encountered this or a similar problem? Do you know the solution?
