WinXP application shutdown

I wish to automatically shutdown an application ie Commence Dbase then shutdown the computer each night.

I know how to shutdown the computer via Scheduller but am having problems shutting down the application.

The Dbase needs to stay open to be updated after I leave each night.

Help will be most appreciated.
