WinXP home edition- Logging on to domain

I have a user?s laptop that?s running WinXP home edition. I can get it on the network but I can?t get it to log on to a domain. I have a Microsoft book on XP that says go to My Computer, system properties and then to the “computer name” tab. In the illustration it shows a “Network ID” button that when selected will allow you to set up to a domain. The laptop I have doesn?t have that option. Is that an option during set up? Any Ideas would be appreciated
