WinXP internet problem

I have a WinXP Pro PC om my network that connects to the internet, verifies Username and Password, but won’t open a browser page. I can ping in command prompt, and in DailUp Monitor there is traffic in both ways. The errorpage lists a DNS error, butI can’t seem to spot the setting to be changed. can someone please help
