History:
I installed the newest nvidia 7800gt display driver and it was slow.
I realized that nvidia recommended to uninstall the previous driver and then install the new driver.
I uninstalled the nvidia display driver.
I rebooted.
It started to come up. It displayd the first graphical stuff with the moving bar at the bottom.
When the 1st graphical stuff finished the screen went blank. The monitor said it was still getting a signal but nothing on the display. I could hear the windows startup sound a few later and then I could hear the sound from trillian when it started.
I am able to shut it down by doing the cntrl alt delete and choosing shutdown.
So I know its running just no display.
I know the monitor and video card are ok since i can still run vista and ubuntu ( multi boot system ).
I tried to perform an in-place (reinstallation) of Windows XP as outlined by Microsoft at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341.
It will not let me do the repair. I hate to have to start from scratch.
What can I do?
I do have file access to the drive from vista but i haven’t got any idea what to look for or th fix.
Thanks
Steve
