wmp9 can’t play vcd

i downloaded version ver.9 of windows media player. the player can’t play vcd’s. PC spec is P-III 450Mhz, 128Mhz SDRAM, winxp pro, office xp pro, 20G hard drive. what do you think is the problem? is it the RAM?
