Word 2000 Shuts down after Opening

We have recently installed Office 2000 on an IBM clone machine. There is plenty of RAM (128MB) and HD space. Whenever we attempt to open Outlook, Word or Excel, the system will shut it down quickly after opening. However, Access opens ok. We have downloaded all the updates from the Microsoft site to no avail. We will be most grateful for any help on this.
