Word Document Does not Close

Does anyone have a solution or suggestion that would resolve the below issue??

Issue: When opening a document in Word it can take up to 25 to 30 seconds to open. When closing the word document it appears to close, word app closes, but when you look on the server where the document is saved the server reports the document still open and if you try to open the document again it will be read only. The document does eventually close (most of the time) the document on the server after one totwo minutes or sometimes not at all.

Solutions we have tried: Turn off Norton Anti-virus, write cache config, Several of the MS Q atricles.

Environment: We have a mix of NT Workstation with Office97 and XP Pro workstations with Office XP.The domain controllers are NT 4 and our file servers are Windows 2000.
