Word hangs during document merge

When merging several documents (created by other folks) that were emailed to her, Word 2002 hangs.

– We intend to try more RAM, but I have had a cry for help from one of the techie guys who has been frustrated BY THIS TASK!!! So, I thought I’d query all you gurus:)
