www access stopped on 6 of 18 pc.s for no apparent reason.
1. all machines have fixed ipaddress
2. machines affected are a mix of 95/xp
3. machines can ping eg www.yacoo confirming connectivity tp the internet and can resolve addresses to good i.p.
, they cannot ftp or email or www while all others can
4. there is no restrictions to any traffic or machines on their router.
5 have updated avirus signatures to lateds from norton intelligent updater and ran full scan showing no virus.
6. have checked wsock dlls and replaced them to no avail.
7. have repaired/reinstalled internet explorer – no avail
q1. why would six machines which were all running perfectly suddenly stop.
q2. does network card use wsock dlls or only dialup networking. eg modem
this is totally weird problem in my experience any advise, I am badly stuck as the customer is putting me under pressure to resolve issue. I would really appreciate any advice/thoughts u have on the issue.
