XP and wireless

Can someone verify or deny this for me? I was told that there is a 9Kbps cap on file transfers (over network or internet) in WinXP, but I can’t find documentation on it anywhere!

I have XP Pro connected to the internet via wireless DSL (awesome on Win98SE, but I don’t want to go back) with an Orinoco USB client, and it is dog-slow! Thanks
