XP dial up password

In the XP dial up connection window when the save password box is checked, i get a duplication of the original password. I have tried every possible configuration, including deleteing and rebboting followed by a new dial up setup with a new password. I STILL get a repeat password. its got me stumped. I have checked with MS’s knowledge base and could not find a suitable answer.
