XP does not detect CDROM disc change

I have 2 systems kicking my butt with this problem. When you manually eject a CD, such as to put disk 2 in for a game, XP does not recognize the disk has changed. If I right click and select eject, it does see the change, but only then. The two systems are an AMD 2400+ clone board and a Dell inspirion 4100 laptop. Any Ideas?
