Hi,
I recently got a laptop from a family member that was running painfully slow. It is an HP pavillion 5730, with 2.8 Ghz Celeron and 705 Mb of RAM (currently) as recognized by XP Home SP 2.
The machine had one 256 Mb stick of RAM initially, and I noticed that the standard commit charge was higher than the installed physical memory, so it made sense that the paging file was constantly being used to overcome that discrepancy.
When I installed a 512 Mb stick of RAM, I expected much better performance and to have the HD no longer be accessed continually.
I may be seeing marginally better performance (based upong speed of program access, etc – not any system monitored data). But I am baffled by why the HD continues to run and hope that the solution to that problem may help bost the overall performance as well.
Any thought>?
The HD does not need defragmentation.
Thanks.
