Several machines here have started displaying the same symptoms – on start-up DEP message says it has prevented Genereic Host Services for Win32 from executing – then generates a system error – unable to write memory address….
The problem is that 2 machines are regularly accessed via VPN using remote desktop. One of these machines works once remotely, then subsequently cannot access mapped drives (LAN is present and working for email and remote access) and needs a re-start.
The other is un useable remotely, and became completely unstable, nescessitating a complete system restore to vanilla machine with all the hassles that involves.
I see now that there is no longer an option to disable DEP in control panel, and even editing boot.ini does not seem to prevent this error and behaviour.
