XP network missed connection

Upgraded 98SE to XP Pro. Connecting to
Internet wasn’t a problem, but now is.
Contacted ISP-had me go through a series of
steps: command, ipconfig /release, ipconfig
/renew. I get a 169.254.149.101 for the
Autoconfiguration IP address. “Anerror
occurred while revising interface Network
Bridge (Network Bridge) 3 : An operation was
attempted on something that is not a socket.”
The ISP referred me to the manufacturer. Said
something about reinstalling TCP/IP.
Fortunately, I have another computer from
which to write this plea. Thank you for your
help! Compaq Presario 5716.
