I have a windows XP computer that was working fine. A modem was used to dial up to the Internet and one day on opening Internet Explorer, “This page cannot be displayed” immediately came up. No dial-up screen appeared, even though “Always dial my default Connection” was selected. After dialling up manually, Internet Explorer would still display the same error. So I deleted the Dial up connection and tried to recreate it, only to have the “Connect using Modem” option greyed out in New Network Connection wizard. There was no way I could create another Connection.
Another problem that started at the same time, was that every time the computer restarted after logging in, it would take around 10 minutes to finish loading everything. And during this time the computer would be running really slow, and I was unable to open up certain things like Network Properties, and Printer settings. Finally, I rebuilt the computer from scratch.
Everything worked fine on the computer for about 5 days, and then all of a sudden, the exact same problem came back.
Any ideas???
