I ran a Novell 5.0 network comprised of 95/98 PCs. I recently purchased 3 new Dell Inspiron 4100 laptops with Windows 2000 and XP Office Professional. The users of these laptops are expirencing long save times for Word and Excel files when the saveto the network. A save in Word XP takes 2min for any size file. I tested saving to the local drive from the network. This was fine, but when I saved the same file to the network…there is a lag period. Also, yesterday the users were expirencing”permission errors” when saving Word files. I have not had any of these problems with 95/98 windows. I may end up installing Office 2000 if the problems persist. One of the laptops came with XP prof/XP office originally and I had so many problems with XP as an operating system, I reformatted the laptop and installed Win 2000. I used NTFS as the format, the 2 other laptops from Dell with Win 2000 have FAT32 format. We are a CPA office and this is a critical time…..so a fix is needed ASAP. (Network is running both IP and IPX through 10/100 Notel Bay switches.)
