My set up is this: Two offices, both with DSL. One
XP Professional PC at each office. One XP
machine is a VPN server which works fine for
clients within the LAN so I know the server is set up
OK.
My problem is connecting VPN clientsoutside the
office. We have an Actiontec DSL/Router. It is set
up for IPSec/L2TP passthrough and PPTP is set up
by default. It has the latest firmware. I have port
1723 open and set up to forward to the internal IP
address of the VPN server. The VPN clients are
configured to use PPTP. When the VPN clients
connect, they get to ‘authenticating username and
password’ and then times out and I get error 721. I
looked that up on MS Technet and couldn’t find
and articles applying to this situation. When I
configure the clients to use L2TP i get a “no valid
certificate was found” error (781 i think).
I have tried connecting also from Win2k machines
from outside the office with no difference. Any
suggestions or help?
