XP Pro woes!

by janey123 . Updated 19 years, 5 months ago

Hi,

Hope someone can help me here.

I have a pc running XP pro, which upon boot now is giving a read disk failure and inviting me to ctrl, alt and del.

I have removed the drive from the pc, and fitted it to another XP system as a slave, and the files are there, and can be read etc.

I have also fitted the drive as a master to another system (which was running win98), and it boots up into XP with no problem.

This led me to think it was a problem with the original pc that the xp drive was on, bios settings or similar. I have tried all options i can think off but nothing works.

I did find however that when i took the drive from the win98 pc, and fitted that the the original XP system, that the pc did boot into win98 with no problem. So I am now stuck.

The xp hard drive, has all files intact, and does boot on another system with no problems. And another drive boots on the xp system also. On face value it would appear that both xp drive, and xp system are working ok, but just not together. Am i missing something? Cann anyone suggest anything?

Best regards
