XP Recovery Disks

Hello…I have backed up my disks using Roxio, and I feel I am ready to use my 7 system recovery disks to clean out my computer…I have a bug that Best Buy techies can’t find and they said to reboot….Question? What do I do? I have no paper work with me here, and I do have the 7 recovery disks. Do I format? And how? And then just plug in the disks? Hate to sound like an idiot but I am…thanks for any help…Mike
