XP Sony Vaio unable to enter safe mode

Hiya, I have a relatively new Vaio running XP pro. When I switched it on today it aborts and enters a screen saying that there is an error either software or hardware and gives the option of entering safe mode, safe mode with prompts, or normal mode

However, none of these options allow entry into windows, and just leads to rebooting.

Is there any way of getting into safe mode or normal mode?
