Have a crash with a registry failure and the dreaded blue screen – unable to open a hive file …../SOFTWARE
Trying to recover in BIOS mode with XP install CD in the cd drive. Using a PS type keyboard and mouse but am unable to control the keyboard (tried 2 different keyboards) Pressing the key to get into the BIOS setup or select F9 (Express recovery) or F12 (BIOS order) keys doesnt go into the relevant area… BIOS screens proceed. Asks “Boot from CD”? Press any key… doesnt fire up the CD drive.
Get to the BIOS screen to select the start up mode – defaulted to “Start Windows Normally”. Am unable to up and down arrow to select either “Safe Mode” or “Start from last known Configuration”…. then it times out and displays the blue screen.
Anybody know how to get around this?
