XP Windows Redlines – CPU stays at 100%

by ctcarroll . Updated 23 years, 1 month ago

I have an XP Home edition with Internet Mail only (IMO) selected. Soon after booting, my Services.sys (PID 4) grabs every bit of CPU available. CPU stays at 100%. This is true whether I launch MSN through dialup or just play solitaire. I know there is a known problem with SVP3 for Windows 2000 when IMO is used (which is why I mentioned it) and tried the workaround for it but the screens have changed so I can’t even follow the tab selection for that workaround. My vendor support just said to reinstall but, beside the extreme hassle of that, I don’t see how that would solve the problem. I believe it is related to messengers and Outlook but am not sure.
