XP Wireless Lan file and print sharing p

by pkoss . Updated 23 years, 5 months ago

I have 5 machines sharing a cable broadband connection using a wireless Netgear router with 4 port hub. 1 desktop PC, running Windows XP home, is connected via the 4 port hub. A second desktop PC, running Windows 98, is connected wirelessly (Linksys USB), a third desktop PC, running Windows XP home is connected wirelessly (linksys USB), the fourth and fifth are notebook PCs connected wirelessly (Siemens Speedstream PCMCIA card – excellent reception by the way!!!)

Now the PROBLEM:

All of the PCs connect to the router and can surf the Internet but only four can share files and print to a shared printer. One of the notebooks while it can see the workgroup CAN’T share files and printers. In fact it can’t see its own files or the open the workgroup to see the other PCs . The workgroup is called “Workgroup” However, if I join the notebook to a workgroup called “MSHOME” it can see the “Workgroup” Lan (including the rest of the PCs)but can’t browse or share files/printers in that workgroup) I tried adding everyone to the “MSHOME” workgroup but then I had the reverse situation – 4 PCs couldn’t browse or share and the problem notebook could but only with itself!.

What else can I try? File and printer sharing is turned on, I have made sure that Browser services are turned on, there is no Windows firewall enabled on any of the PCs and have tried both “Use Netbios setting from DHCP…” and “Enable Netbios over TCP/IP”. No matter what I do I can’t get this last PC tobe part of the workgroup. HELP!!!
