z-index

I have created an ‘SELECT’ element and place it one of the other element (‘DIV’) where other element can be viewed OR Hided. When the other element as selected by ‘visible’, the all other element underneth should be hidden. But the ‘SELECT’ elementdid not hide.
I set up the z-index on other element as 65535

Please advise me.
