The University of California, Berkeley, has begun posting its entire course lectures onto YouTube. Over 300 hours of videotaped courses will be available at http://www.youtube.com/ucberkeley.
It is the first university to make full course lectures available on YouTube. According to Berkeley officials, it will continue to expand the offering. Topics of study will include bioengineering, chemistry, physics, biology, and even a lecture on search-engine technology given by Google co-founder Sergey Brin in 2005.
UC Berkeley first launched an audio podcast program with more than 25 courses in 2006 and was slated to deliver 86 full courses and more than 100 events in 2007. It is now delivering on its promise.
Christina Maslach, UC Berkeley’s vice provost for undergraduate education, said in a statement:
UC Berkeley on YouTube will provide a public window into university life, academics, events, and athletics, which will build on our rich tradition of open educational content for the larger community.
