There might be pirates within 12 miles of our west coast but if you really think they will be a problem, I expect after you hang a few from the rails you won't have much of a problem. If they are a really bad nuisance, just advertise free sea safari vacations and I'm sure you will be able to get plenty of takers. /SARC

Freedom isn't free. If you don't have the guts to take responsibility for your own safety, I'd recommend hiring body guards. All things considered, I expect you'd be a lot safer fending off pirates on Blueseed than fending off drug thugs in South Chicago.

The images shown suggest that these are floating vessels. Under international law, as vessels (self propelled or otherwise), they must have a flag of registry and they are subject to the laws of that flag nation. Those laws apply not only to the crew aboard the vessel (there must be some), but also to the passengers (non-crew). If they are platforms (i.e., affixed to and supported by the bottom of the ocean), not floating vessels, they still must have a national registration under international law and they still have laws regarding passengers (occupants) and crew. If they do not have a flag of registry, then they are rogue and will not be protected by any nation. How will they defend against piracy, for example?

So yeah, once a year, they'll have to wait around for the waves to pass IF they occur exactly when they'd want to get on or off the ship. I can live with that.

As someone who has sailed this coast a lot, all I can say is wait until the first storm when the waves build to 20ft and the rain pours down. Then lets see them try and get on or off the ship.
