Two CDs is better than one

In the old days of floppy disks I gave a teaching colleague some learning materials I'd saved to disk. She rang to say the disk was empty, useless, or so faulty the computer wouldn't even read it. I was puzzled until I discovered she was putting it into the disk drive SIDEWAYS. And this woman was teaching word-processing at the time!

RE: Insert into drive D and a half - perhaps they thought it was like the Harry Potter Hogwart's railway station at #9 3/4? Otherwise I would wonder if they can see that well, or couldn't find the Open button? Lots of ummmm good? explanations for this one. Maybe they thought it was like the CD player in their car.

A few years ago, I was part of a team working on assisting Tech's that were dispatched to various sites throughout the country and upgrading the clients systems. These systems had two servers per site with a KVM switch. The particular KVM switch and servers used PS/2 ports for the keyboard and mouse. (Which mean't that that particular model of KVM switch recieved it's power passively from the keyboard ports of the host servers)

Now the procedure required powering down both servers before disconnecting anything and only powering the devices back on when all the devices are connected.

(Note: the KVM switch also had the optional external power of 5 volts)

One Tech found a power supply for a Motorola Modem that fit into the KVM switch (12 volts).

To make a long story short, this Tech managed to blow the KVM switch, both motherboards and hard drives of both servers.

I think he got his last paycheck shortly after that.
