Roku 2 XS teardown: EMI shields soldered to the bottom of the PCB

Hi Bill - great teardown - no sign of an ETH PHY chip or ETH Transformer? I guess the PHY is integrated in the SMSC chip? And the ETH transformer inside the Ethernet Connector? Any idea who the RJ45 connector manufacturer is? If the TF is integrated in the connector then it's the smallest one I have seen so far - neat.

Sorry for the nitpicking, but it's just that when I take something apart, I like to be able to put it together again and have it working as it should. Once you identified the battery cover catch/release button, I understood the gestalt of the thing.

BTW, I made a slight error. The purple button on the bottom of the remote is not the reset switch, but the reset switch button. The reset switch is on the PC board at the tip of your thumb on picture 38.

Thanks for the note. Identifying the "top" and "bottom" of PCBs can be a tricky business. Often, PCBs are mounted upside down depending on the device's case and internal hardware layout. I often refer to the "top" of a PCB as the side with the processors or most of the chips--as I did here.

As for the small "black thing out of the case" you mention, it is the catch/release button for the remote's battery cover.
