Dinosaur sightings: Empire Deluxe

Empire started life as a mainframe game before personal computers like the C64 were even available.

Empire Deluxe is still a highly playable strategy game and worth downloading.
Newer games may have more features, but that doesn't necessarily make them more enjoyable.

It has been driving me nuts! Does anybody know the name/title of the music score used in the opening credits for Empire Deluxe?

I know that Interstel came up with one.

Before them, there was the Rainbird game of the same name.

And before that there was a version on a cassette.

That is the only version I ever had, until I accidentally wiped it when I formatted a disk without checking which disk was in the disk drive. I had it on disk because somebody ported the cassette version onto a disk, but did not change the programming to the save port so that I couldn't save a game. I either had to play it straight through to the end of lose it. A game could last as much as six hours! I spent many a sleepless night on it!

I remember yellow islands on a sea of blue. Different color markers for the opponents. And at least 4 different units: 1 army; 3 navy: carrier, destroyer, and submarine. That last one was sometimes difficult to keep track of and I lost sight of several of them as they went on their merry way until they attacked a ship somewhere!

The graphics of this version were perhaps primitive by today's standards, but for the time they were more than adequate for what was after all a strategy game where playability was wanted over snazzy graphics.

Let's remember the graphics display was 320x200 on the C=64!

Today this would be but a small corner of our displays. The LCD on my computer is 15.4" and measures 1280x800 pixels 4 times the width and 4 times the height, i.e. 16 times the video information!
