Give yourself vast desktop real estate with the Matrox TripleHead2Go

    Not just for games

The Matrox TripleHead2Go Triple Digital Edition transforms you single-screen video signal into a video signal that can expand across three separate monitors. The nice thing about the TripleHead2Go is that it accomplishes this task in a small, light-weight package that does not require expensive additional video cards.

  • Surround graphics

Matrox obviously understands the importance of the PC gamer. This kind of set would definitely appeal to that demographic. Of course, one has to wonder if a hard core gamer would prefer to buy a single large monitor.

  • All there is to it

This is the TripleHead2Go in all its glory.

  • Input

The incoming video can be VGA or DVI.

  • Output

The out going video stream on the Triple Digital Version is all DVI.

  • The setup

We are using three Sony 19 inch monitors and a Lenovo Thinkpad p61.

  • Loading software

Matrox provides a CD-ROM with the necessary drivers.

  • Reboot

The software loaded quickly but the reboot took an extraordinary long time. Not sure what the delay was, but the drivers eventually installed.

  • Some tweaks

Initially, the default resolution was a bit off. I had to add the wide (16:10 ratio) versions of the driver.

  • There we go

After the tweak, we have a display that spans three monitors. The operating sees a single monitor.

  • Lots of cable

    The TripleHead2Go requires numerous cables.

  • And more cable

  • Not that is some real estate

    We have a single monitor with a resolution of 3480 X 800.

  • TechRepublic monitored

With all that real estate one can keep a good eye on the happenings at TechRepublic.

In general, I like the TripleHead2Go. It works exactly as advertised, which is always a pleasant surprise. But I can’t help but wonder if a more elegant solution would be to buy a larger single monitor. Granted you can’t get a 3048 X 800 resolution like you can with the TripleHead2Go, but you can get a substantial amount of real estate.
