In the iPhone lineup, much like the issue with holding the phone a certain way and their "incorrect" algorithm in determining signal strength.

They are toys to some, business necessities to others. That can be said of a lot of things, don't you think? Are computers toys? Some people use them for work; others use them for gaming. I rely on my smartphone heavily for my email, calendar, notepad, tasklist, password manager for multiple servers and websites, and on the rare occasion, document editing. Sure I play around and waste time on it as well. The devices are what you make of them.
