New servers join Dell line

  • PowerEdge 2950

The new Dell PowerEdge 2950 was\r\nintroduced Wednesday as the new base of Dell’s two-processor server line. It starts at $1,849 with two of Intel’s new Xeon 5100 processors, formerly known as Dempsey.

  • All of the new PowerEdge servers introduced by Dell Wednesday come with an LCD screen on the front of the server that can be programmed to display error messages or warning signs, so technicians can diagnose problems right in the server rack.

  • Dell also introduced a blade server with the new dual-core Intel processors. The Xeon 5100 processors consume less power than their Xeon 5000 predecessors, making them more appropriate for the tight confines of a thin blade server.
