Richard Wirt, general manager of Intel's Software and Solutions Group, presented his view of the coming world of corporate computing in aspeech Aug. 16 at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo in San Francisco.

Wirt sees a three-layer arrangement,with virtualized computing resources as the foundation, aservices-oriented architecture of software above it, and actual businesstransaction software at the top. Spanning all three layers is technologyto provide and enforce security, administer policies such as processreponse time, and manage the computing equipment.
