Photos: Eee PC grows two inches

I don't think I quite understand the concept of buying one of these mini laptops. I'd much rather have a larger, heavier laptop with 5 times as much capacity and much much larger screen with all the extra features for the same price. Plus flash memory in a laptop will only last for 1 year. Flash has a limited number of write cycles so once your memory is dead, bye-bye files. This is a really dumb concept to me.

OK, I'm not 100% certain Asus never did that with the Eee PC, but I do know for a fact that the "One Child Per Laptop" project tried exactly the promotion you described. And, I'm really, REALLY doubtful that Asus had any such trouble moving the Eee.

Originally, if I remember correctly, people in the US paid for 2 machines. One for themselves the other to be donated. At this price, I suspect this is still the case, but it is not reported here.

However, I do NOT know that is still the case with this model.
