Microsoft said Wednesday it will revise this support lifecycle FAQ posted on its Web site. The FAQ could be read to understand that support for consumer products ends five years after its release, the software maker agrees.
Until earlier this week, Microsoft’s Web site contained a posting that said support for Windows XP Home would end on Dec. 31, 2006. Here’s the page in question, retrieved from a PC cache.
Late on Tuesday, Microsoft updated its Web site to reflect the correct end-of-support date for Windows XP Home and Windows XP Media Center Edition. The cutoff will come two years after XP’s successor Windows Vista ships.
