You seem to be a knowledgeable Win8 expert. Could you please provide some hints to rectify Microsoft's stupidity of putting Metro on desktop PC's. I can do a lot of things on the "Desktop" but some applications always start in Metro mode (like Skype and many others). For some applications I already found way to place shortcuts on the "Desktop" and run them from there but others I can only run in full screen mode.
I would also like to get rid of multi-touch and swipes, because on my laptop (with touchpad) I keep zooning in when I just need to scroll.
I don't understand what idiots could think that a GUI on a 5" touch (only) screen and a laptop or desktop (with a keyboard and mouse) could be served by the same GUI. If Microsoft wants to penetrate the phone market, that is fine but there are still people that need their computer to work on their PC (not just watch youtube,, play games, ...).
On my desktop (two times 30") I have typically:
- 2 times visual studio
- one or more word documents
- outlook
- lync
- would like 2+ Skype conversations (no voice, no video)
- ...
I would have preferred that they invested in:
- file de-duplication (with copy on write)
- easily accessible symbolic links (I use them via dos since sysinternals provided "junctions")
- multiple (tabbed) desktops
I was very happy with windows 2000, W-XP and W7 (skipped Vista).
I asked Dell for a "downgrade" to W7 of my laptop but they said that the driver for some components could be problematic, and strongly advised me to stay with W8.
If SP1 doesn't arrive soon and if it doesn't take into account the needs of a SW developer then I'll have to move on to Linux, even if that means that I loose Office, VisualStudio, ...
