One of the two end-game zones included in the Burning Crusade, Netherstorm is divided into seven islands, which are best completed one at a time. Each island has its own quest hub with other quest givers scattered around, usually one or two per island.\n
\nInferious of the Forsaken, an Officer of the Technologia guild will be your guide through this zone. As is typical of his Race, he tends to be crude, but I’ll try to keep him under control. Enjoy!\n

This goblin city, Area 52, is similar in design to the ones you might have seen before in Tanaris and Winterspring. It also includes similar services, such as a bank and an inn, as well as several vendors. Lets go inside and take a look.
What was that? Where am I? Who am I?
Inside this building are the goblins that control the arena gear. Play enough arena matches, and they just might sell it to you — if they feel like it.
Providing a safe haven and resting place is not all this building does. It also houses the emissaries from the Scryers and the Aldor factions from Shattrath City. Each faction’s emissaries give similar quests, but with a slight twist toward their own agendas. Several levels ago, I chose to ally myself with the Scryers, so the Aldor will not even talk with me. Oh well.
Down this staircase is the underground goblin vault. Fortunately, their bank is compatible with the horde bank so it makes item storage and retrieval easy in these far reaches.
It looks like these crazy goblins are trying to build a rocket ship to travel who-knows-where. Beneath and around the rocket are various goblins that want your help gathering materials. They pay a fair price, so it’s good work.
The first of many Manaforges in Netherstorm, this one is just to the southwest of Area 52 and is the first place the Scryer or Aldor emissaries send you.
Broken off from our Silvermoon friends, these Blood Elves are followers of Silvermoon’s estranged leader. You will need to kill many of these.
This guy wanders around Manaforge B’Naar and will attack an unknowing quester. Unless you are highly skilled, he will probably kill you so tread carefully. There is a quest to kill this guy, so grab a friend or two and take him out.
The inside of most manaforges look the same. There is a named blood elf inside that carries a key for the machine in the foreground. Use the key on the machine to shut down the manaforge.
This area, called The Heap, is where the Consortium representative sends a fearless quester. These guys are not very friendly. Also, don’t forget to kill their boss while you’re here.
A couple of creatures native to Netherstorm: Shaleskin Flayers and Nether Rays. Some of the goblins back in Area 52 want these dead for certain body parts.
North of Area 52, this area contains some non-friendly Draenei. This goblin wants a worthy adventurer to escort a robot through the ruins, gathering items.
While the robot is grabbing the rocket-like objects in the background, you must gather the red-glowing objects in the foreground. Watch out for the Draenei.
Another Nether Ray and a Phase Hunter, both native creatures in Netherstorm.
Dr. Boom is an interesting goblin. Not very friendly with the residents of Area 52, you are tasked with killing him, but it’s not that easy. You are given a stack of bombs to throw at him while dodging his walking bombs. Good luck.
Another goblin that is messing in things he shouldn’t be, this guy asks groups of 4 or 5 able-bodied adventurers to take control of a Reaver and defend against this Reaver pictured. Guess what happens if you lose…
East and a little south of Area 52, the Arklon Ruins are full of demons. Make sure you grab all of the quests for this area up front so that you only have to come in here once. Gather 4 or 5 stolen devices, kill the demon in the background, and then summon another demon from the fire on the far right of the scene.
If you have allied yourself with the Scryers faction, this Blood Elf will fly you to your next destination. If you have allied with the Aldor, you’ve got to walk. Make sure you’ve completed as many quests on this island as possible before continuing on — it will make your undeath life easier.
These blood elves continue the Scryers quest line into Manaforge Coruu in the background. The tasks at Manaforge Coruu are practically the same as B’Naar. Before attacking Coruu, visit the location in the next scene.
Also on the same island, Kirin’var Village and the Violet Tower are the next major quest hubs.
In the village’s row of houses, there are two different types of mana creatures. While you’re killing several of each, make sure you grab a fragment of this mana bomb.
There are also other houses that are not in the main row. In three of these houses, make sure you pick up the glowing parchment. Watch out for ghosts.
Scattered throughout the village are a few named ghosts. This one stays put inside the city hall. Each of these ghosts is carrying an item their former self held dear. Kill the ghost to get the item and return it to their house in the Row.\n
\nCrazy ghosts — they need to let go of life already…
As with all human villages, this one has a blacksmith. Make sure you take his hammer from him and give it to one of the guys back at the stables.
These objects help to ward off attacks and protect the tower. Charge the three around the tower.
North of the tower in the Chapel Yard are more ghosts, but this time they are more ornery. Attacking them releases a crazed ghost that is much harder to kill. Tread carefully, trying to only take one at a time.
Inside the chapel is Naberius, a named ghost and the leader of the ghosts in the previous scene, who is very difficult to kill. Gather up a few friends and take him out.
In the middle of the Chapel Yard’s field is the ghost of a cow. Escort this cow ghost back to the stables for a nice reward. Watch out for attacks, apparently the other ghosts don’t like you stealing their cow. Got Milk?
Lastly, on this island, is Sunfury Hold. Kill some more bad blood elves, torch their armaments, and get out of there. Simple enough.
Next, head north across the bridge (not goblin, this time) and toward the Midrealm Post. This is inside a bubble called an eco-dome, which have apparently been built by the Consortium to attempt to renew life in this mostly barren land. This is the next island’s major quest hub and a good spot to make some repairs. There are several goblin and Consortium quest givers here that ask for a variety of tasks. Let’s take a look.
The first thing to do is kill several of these lynx. Not a hard task, you’ve done it before. Also, in the background, is a device that you are asked to take readings from. Go ahead and do that while you’re over here killing lynx.
After killing ten or so lynx, you now need to kill ten or so crocodiles. The same type of quest as the lynx, this should be easy work. While killing lynx and crocs, be sure to pick up the bell-shaped flowers like the one just behind the croc.
Outside the eco-dome is another group of demons. These demons are salvaging some trash. Boy, bad guys sure like trash. Kill some of each of the two smaller types of demons and then kill their boss. Two quests up, two quests down.
This ethereal wants an escort to the demon transporter in the next scene. Grab a friend and give him a hand.
This is the demon transporter I was referring to in the last scene. In addition to the demons that are visible, several more demons spawn at each of the obelisks around the transporter as the ethereal is disabling it.
The third manaforge encountered in Netherstorm, Manaforge Duro, has a similar setup to the previous two and is surrounded by Blood Elves. Also pictured here in the foreground are a swiftwing shredder and a warp chaser, more native “fauna” of Netherstorm.
Along with several Sunfury Archers, you will need to kill their boss, Master Daellis Dawnstrike, just outside Duro. Fortunately, they’re fairly well distracted by some mana wyrms.
Also nearby Manaforge Duro is Summoner Kanthin who drops an item you’ll need for one of the folks back in Midrealm Post. He’s pretty easy to take if you’re careful not to pull any other Blood Elves.
A miniature version of the goblin cities we have so far seen, Cosmowrench is east of Manaforge Duro and only yields one quest: kill warp chasers. The biggest use this little town has is that it serves as the flight point for nearby Tempest Keep.
Here’s another warp stalker. Be wary of these guys because they can sneak up on you. Us rogues know all about that…
Tempest Keep is a series of floating ships just off the edge of Netherstorm. Inside are 4 separate dungeons that brave adventurers are encouraged to try. There is good money to be made running through these.
After completing this island, return to Ecodome Midrealm and cross the bridge north. Soon enough, you will come to this Night Elf standing at the base of a tall elevator. She gives a few quests that have to do with tending the transplanted fauna. We’ll take a look at those soon.
Unless you own a flying mount, the only way to the top of the Stormspire is to ride this lift. As soon as it gets to the bottom, we’ll hop on.
Okay, here’s the elevator. Chase that Human Paladin off and hop on.
At the top of the Stormspire is the next major quest hub in Netherstorm. Populated entirely by goblins and Consortium ethereals, there are many quests here for the current island.
The Consortium leader, Nexus-Prince Haramad, has fixated a permanent image of himself in one of the buildings on the Stormspire. Haramad gives several good quests in the region.
The Night Elf female we saw a while back firsts asks us to kill some of the walking plants, called Farahlon Lashers, you see scattered around the edges. Other than poison, these guys are easy work. Next, she wants us to tag some of these Talbuk Does so that the are easily tracable. The Sires don’t like it very much.
Finally, the Night Elf wants this Markaru dead. Some questers may want a friend for this one.
Just outside the ecodome surrounding Stormspire are two Forge Bases. The first contains some smaller demons working around two or three inactive fel reavers. One of your tasks is to destroy one of the reavers. This is way easier than the ones in Hellfire Peninsula…
The second forge base is centered around three demon transporters. You of course will have to kill some demons, but you also have to mind control one of those demons to blow up each transporter. Fun stuff!
Next to one of the transporters is Silroth. I think it was Haramad that wanted him dead. Bring a couple friends.
Back at the first forge camp is Forgemaster Morug. He drops another item you’ll need for the quest in the previous scene. Bring your friends over from the first guy to take this one out.
On the northernmost tip of Netherstorm is Ecodome Farfield. Inside here is a lone ethereal that needs help gathering parts for his machine. Guess who has them…
Sure enough, the raptors have put the machine’s parts in their nests. Kill some raptors, grab some parts, and get out of there.
While killing raptors and gathering parts, watch out for Tyrantus roaming around. He’s as tough as his Un’Goro cousins and may kill you. You’ll need him later for a Netherwing reputation quest, so remember where he is.
Between the forge bases and the Ruins of Farahlon (which we will glance into in a moment) are these rock creatures called Farahlon Breakers. Kill a few as well as their leader, Cragskaar, for some folks back at the Stormspire.
Inside the Ruins of Farahlon are demon eyes and dogs. You’ll need to kill several of these. Watch out for the eyes’ superman beams and the dogs’ flame breath — nasty stuff.
Lastly in the ruins, you’ll need to kill a demon leader, Culuthas. You will probably need at least one good friend for him.
West of the Stormspire are three Consortium ethereals that give quests for the small island that contains Manaforge Ara. Now is a good time to head over there.
At the base of Manaforge Ara are Blood Elves and Demons working together. Who would have thought that would happen. Kill away!
Here’s a shot of the forge itself. Same as the last three, only tougher, you will need two to four friends to complete this one.
Beneath Manaforge Ara is the Trelleum Mine. Inside you will need to help a remorseful Blood Elf to repent for his mistakes. Watch out for demons and Blood Elves inside that are not so remorseful.
After completing the tasks out at Manaforge Ara, head back past the Stormspire and east to the Protectorate Watch Post which is on the last island of Netherstorm. Many of the Consortium ethereals here have quests for the able-bodied adventurer in the lands that surround Manaforge Ultris.
The first thing to do is to attack their arch enemies again in the Ethereum Staging Grounds. Kill some, kill some more, and then kill some more. You also have to reconnoiter some items.
Along the way, you have to keep checking in with Commander Ameer via the Ethereum Transponder Zeta. Eventually, he asks you to escort a friend to blow up a mana tube that feeds Manaforge Ultris. Bring a friend or two to do this.
While you’re killing the ethereals, also attack these globule-like Void Wastes found in the pools around the same area. They drop items you will need for our Consortium friends.
Entrapped by the Ethereum, Nexus-King Salhadaar needs to be set free and then killed by you and 4 very good friends. He’s a tough one.
Underneath Ultris is another mine shaft called Access Shaft Zeon. Inside are what appear to be dead Blood Elves that actually turn into the creature you see lurking under the tent. Be very wary.
In the pools right up next to Ultris are some ooze creatures called Seeping Sludge which you’ll need to kill for the same quest as the globule monsters previously.
Inside and directly ouside the manaforge are these Void elementals. You will need to kill several of these to get shards that belong to their leader, who is inside the forge.
On the eastern-most reach of the Ultris island is the Celestial Ridge. This is one of the dwelling places of the Netherwing Dragons in the Outlands. You will need to kill these for their essences.
In the Celestial Ridge is this Ethereal Teleport Pad which you will need to use to get instructions. Those instructions send you slightly north to the camp we will see soon. The people at that camp want some dragon eggs and then they return you down here to look for the Shrouded Figure highlighted to the left of the image. The Shrouded Figure also wants items from the dragonkin.
This is the camp I was referring to in the previous scene. These people collect dragon eggs.
At the top of Manaforge Ultris there is a swirling mass of shadow energy. This is apparently a portal into another realm. You’ll need to borrow a flying mount from a Consortium representative if you don’t have your own and bomb this portal.
Inside is the Void elementals’ boss, Dimensius the All-Devouring. Gather four friends and take him out.
A high-ranking demon, Socrethar has his throne placed on this small island. He apparently controls all demon activity in this zone.\n
\nWell, that’s the end of Netherstorm. I hope you enjoyed your tour. Look me up the next time you’re online and I’ll show you around. For the Horde!\n
\nI hope you enjoyed Inferious’ tour of Netherstorm. You can find Inferious on the Duskwood realm. If you liked this format (or didn’t), please let me know via the comments section on this photo gallery.
