Top 10 sites banned at work (screenshots)

  • \n\tOpenDNS, a provider of DNS-based security and infrastructure services, released its list of sites that were most often blocked by businesses in 2010. The most obvious reason for most of the sites on the list is to minimize distractions and keep workers productive. I even found out that my company blocks one of these sites.

    \n\tNo surprise here as Facebook was the most blocked site by businesses with almost one in four (23 percent) trying to put the clamps on social networking site.

  • \n\tMySpace was the second most blocked site at the office by 13 percent of businesses.

  • \n\tYou can’t watch any funny videos from YouTube at 11.9 percent of workplaces.

  • \n\tDoubleclick ads and tracking are taboo at 5.7 percent of businesses.

  • \n\tNo. 5 Twitter is considered a problem at 4.2 percent of businesses.

  • \n\tPersonal email is apparently considered a problem at 2.1 percent of businesses.

  • \n\tManagers at 2.1 percent of workplaces don’t want their employees tempted by the social networking of Google.

  • \n\tTracking cookies from ad.yieldmanager.com are blocked by 1.8 percent of business sites including mine.

  • \n\tSharing with Meebo is not allowed at 1.6 percent places of work.

  • \n\tYou can’t follow your auctions at the 10th most-blocked site at work – eBay.
