Motorola’s Android 17 rollout is coming into focus, but the most important part of the compatibility list may be what isn’t on it.

A Lenovo-published compatibility list, released via the company’s Spanish blog, identifies more than 50 Motorola smartphones expected to receive Android 17, spanning the Razr, Edge, Moto G, and Signature families. The stable release has already begun reaching the Motorola Edge 2025, with newer Razr and Edge devices expected to receive priority as the rollout expands over the coming weeks and months.

For everyday users, that answers a basic question: “Will my phone get Android 17?” For businesses and IT teams managing Android hardware, however, the list raises a more consequential one: How confidently can organizations plan around a device when its software lifecycle is not immediately clear?

Motorola casts a wide Android 17 net

The listed lineup reaches deep into Motorola’s catalog.

Eligible Razr devices stretch back to the Razr Plus 2024 and include newer Razr 60, Razr 70, and 2025 and 2026 models. Motorola’s Edge family is also heavily represented, including the Edge 2025, Edge 2026, Edge 60 models, the Edge 70 lineup, and the Edge 50 Ultra.

The Moto G lineup is similarly broad, covering several 2025 and 2026 devices as well as models such as the Moto G86, G77, G67, G57, and others. The breadth matters because extended operating-system support has increasingly become part of the smartphone value equation rather than a nice-to-have feature reserved for premium hardware.

Android 17 beta builds also offer an early look at what Motorola users could eventually receive. Android Authority reports that testers have encountered HelloUI changes including expanded lock-screen customization, resizable quick settings tiles, revamped haptics, and Live Updates displayed around the front-facing camera area. Beta builds have also shown Motorola developing its Moto AI experience around the Qira assistant.

Those features could change before reaching every device in stable form. More important for buyers, however, is how long their hardware remains eligible for major Android releases in the first place.

Missing phones raise questions about the list

The published lineup may not tell the whole story.

PhoneArena noted that devices including the Edge 50 Neo and Moto G56 are absent, while questions also remain around omissions such as the Edge 50 Pro and Edge 60 Neo.

The Edge 50 Neo is particularly notable. Motorola promised the device five major Android OS upgrades, meaning Android 17 should fall well within its expected support window.

That discrepancy suggests the current Android 17 list may not be exhaustive, although Motorola has not confirmed that every missing device will eventually be added. Users should therefore be careful about interpreting an omission as an end-of-support notice.

But the uncertainty itself matters.

For consumers, an unclear update roadmap can influence whether they keep a $300 or $700 phone for another year or replace it. For companies managing fleets of mobile devices, that ambiguity scales into something more expensive: procurement cycles, security planning, application compatibility testing, mobile device management policies, and replacement budgets all depend partly on knowing how long hardware will remain supported.

Android manufacturers have spent years turning longer update commitments into a competitive selling point. Once those promises influence purchasing decisions, vendors also need to communicate them clearly enough for customers to plan around them.

A long support window has less value if customers have to piece together multiple announcements to determine whether their hardware still qualifies.

Android updates are becoming part of the hardware purchase

That is the larger shift hiding inside Motorola’s Android 17 rollout.

Smartphone specifications were once dominated by processors, cameras, displays, and battery life. Software longevity now belongs on the same checklist.

A cheaper Android phone that receives fewer major updates can carry a higher effective replacement cost than a more expensive model kept in service for several additional years. The same logic applies to businesses deploying hundreds or thousands of handsets. An extra supported Android generation can potentially extend a fleet’s useful life and delay a costly hardware refresh.

Motorola appears to recognize that pressure. The Android 17 list covers a broad range of devices across multiple price tiers. GizmoChina’s reporting similarly highlights the range of Razr, Edge, and Moto G hardware included in the rollout.

Still, breadth alone is not enough. Predictability matters just as much.

What Motorola users should watch next

According to Lenovo’s compatibility post, the Android 17 rollout will happen gradually, so eligible devices will not receive the update simultaneously. Newer Razr and Edge models are expected to move toward the front of the queue, while some Moto G owners may wait longer.

Users with a listed phone can check for the update under Settings > System > System updates. Those whose devices are missing should not immediately assume support has ended, particularly when their original update commitment suggests Android 17 should still fall within the device’s support window.

The real test for Motorola is therefore not whether an Android 17 compatibility list can stretch beyond 50 phones. It is whether customers can reliably understand the lifespan of the hardware they already bought.

As Android phones increasingly compete on years of software support, update policy is becoming part of the product itself. Motorola’s Android 17 rollout shows progress. The unanswered devices show why clear lifecycle communication matters almost as much as the update itself.
