Building AI agents for business no longer has to begin with an enterprise software contract. Workato is opening its automation platform to developers and smaller organizations in Asia, with a free starting allowance.

The company launched self-service access in Singapore on October 21, 2026. Students, developers, and businesses can sign up without a credit card and receive 50,000 one-time credits to build AI agents, automated workflows, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers.

The Singapore rollout follows Workato’s North American launch earlier in 2026. It gives smaller teams access to enterprise automation tools without negotiating a traditional sales contract, although usage limits and paid features will affect how far projects can scale.

Free credits, paid features, and usage limits

Workato Free includes 50,000 credits that do not renew monthly. Its billing documentation explains that workflows, API calls, data operations, and AI agent actions consume credits at different rates. The allowance therefore does not guarantee a fixed number of automated tasks.

The free plan includes AI agents, Enterprise MCP, workflow orchestration, API management, and low-code applications. Users can create workflows, called recipes, that connect business systems and perform tasks based on predefined triggers.

Workato’s AI agents, known as Genies, can act through connected applications. MCP servers allow compatible assistants to interact with external tools, similar to how Google’s Gemini Agent operates across workplace apps.

These connections also require safeguards. Microsoft warned about manipulated MCP tool descriptions in July 2026, explaining how attackers could steer agents into unintended actions or data disclosure.

Workato’s billing documentation lists Pro plans starting at $75 per month for 2,500 credits, while its main pricing page highlights a $100 monthly option with 3,500 credits. A higher tier costs $275 for 10,000 credits. Unused monthly credits expire rather than rolling over.

Pro adds intelligent document processing, custom connectors, and additional security controls. Enterprise plans provide broader governance and deployment capabilities.

Singapore’s role in Workato’s AI expansion

Workato’s AI services were already available in Singapore before the self-service launch. In December 2025, the company introduced Agent Studio and Enterprise MCP in its Singapore data center. The October launch expands access rather than introducing these capabilities locally for the first time.

Singapore also supports Workato’s regional engineering and training efforts. Its AI Institute Alliance, announced in September 2025, involves local universities and polytechnics. On October 20, 2026, Workato reported progress at its Singapore AI Lab, including contributions from Singapore-based engineers.

The expansion could help Southeast Asian businesses test automation without an initial subscription. However, Workato has not published a country-by-country availability breakdown or confirmed that every self-service account processes data in Singapore.

Moving agents into production requires additional scrutiny. As enterprise AI deployments expand beyond pilot projects, IT teams must manage access to business applications, monitor agent activity, and enforce approval controls.

Organizations considering Workato should verify data residency, permissions, and expected credit consumption before connecting sensitive systems. The free credits make initial testing possible, but larger deployments will need a closer look at usage costs and security requirements.
